European leaders are condemning Russia’s decision to expel diplomats from Sweden, Poland and Germany for taking part in “unlawful” opposition rallies, organised by Alexey Navalny.
It coincided with a visit by the European Union’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, to Moscow to meet his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

As a recognised nuclear-weapon state, the country possesses the world’s largest stockpile of nuclear weapons.
Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov is a Russian diplomat and politician who has served as the Foreign Minister of Russia since 2004. As a member of the United Russia party, he was previously the Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, serving in the role from 1994 to 2004.
Sweden is a Scandinavian nation with thousands of coastal islands and inland lakes, along with vast boreal forests and glaciated mountains. Its principal cities, eastern capital Stockholm and southwestern Gothenburg and Malmö, are all coastal. Stockholm is built on 14 islands. It has more than 50 bridges, as well as the medieval old town, Gamla Stan, royal palaces and museums such as open-air Skansen.
