Russia and the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) participated in anti-terrorist military drills near Orenburg, near the border with Kazakhstan. More than 5,000 servicemen and about 600 pieces of military machinery were involved in the drills, held between 20 and 24 September.

Kazakhstan is a member of the United Nations (UN), WTO, CIS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Eurasian Economic Union, CSTO, OSCE, OIC, CCTS, and TURKSOY.
