The RSPCA has issued a stern warning to Australians looking to adopt puppies from online breeders, after a 400% increase in scams during the pandemic.

$1.6 million has been lost since 2019 to online scammers pretending to sell puppies to would-be owners.

The RSPCA suggests that all new owners should use trusted breeders, adoption programs and see the dogs before making a payment.
