Royal fans divided by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Global News published this video item, entitled “Royal fans divided by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Queen’s Platinum Jubilee” – below is their description.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were booed by some people in the crowd of fans who came to see the Royal Family attend a thanksgiving service for Queen Elizabeth II at St Paul’s Cathedral during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Friday, in the couple’s first public appearance together in Britain since quitting royal duties.

Yvonne Thomas, who had travelled from East London, described herself as a huge fan of the Queen, but not the royal couple. She was amongst those who booed as the couple walked down the stairs of the cathedral.

Meanwhile, Akachi Okoro, another fan who had travelled down from Scotland to be at the front of the crowd, disagreed and was surprised by the boos.

Many were disappointed the 96-year-old monarch couldn’t attend the service herself due to mobility issues.

There were also boos for Boris Johnson from some of the crowd as the Prime Minister emerged from St Paul’s Cathedral hand in hand with his wife Carrie.

The presence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations suggests as she enters the twilight of her reign, she wants to put affairs in order, says one royal expert.

In This Story: Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is best known as a holiday celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday of November every year, usually through feasting, parades and travel to see family and friends, though celebrations were scaled back during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

The roots of the modern celebration lie in settlers celebrating their arrival in the Americas in the early 1600’s. It has been a public holiday since 1941 due to federal legislation, an annual tradition in the United States by presidential proclamation since 1863 and by state legislation since the Founding Fathers of the United States.

Traditionally, Thanksgiving has been a celebration of the blessings of the year, including the harvest. What Americans call the “Holiday Season” generally begins with Thanksgiving. The first day after Thanksgiving Day—Black Friday—marks the start of the Christmas shopping season.
