The Government will pay 80 per cent of wages of those unable to work during the coronavirus crisis, as Rishi Sunak announced “unprecedented measures for unprecedented times”.
The coronavirus job retention scheme will pay up to £2,500 per worker each month to businesses, with the Chancellor pledging his “responsibility” to protect people’s jobs and incomes.
He said: “Today I can announce for the first time in our history the Government is going to step in and pay people’s wages.
