ITV News published this video item, entitled “Rishi Sunak announces government will top up wages for people on reduced hours | ITV News” – below is their description.
The Chancellor today unveiled the Government’s new support scheme, aimed at saving jobs and fending off mass unemployment. Rishi Sunak called it a “radical intervention” which would offer fresh help for businesses and workers for six months, from November. It will mainly apply to employees working fewer hours because of lower demand – and also extends the VAT cut for the hospitality sector. But it’s nowhere near as generous as the furlough scheme, which ends next month – meaning many others will face redundancy.
