Richard Branson gets head start in billionaire space race | DW News

DW News published this video item, entitled “Richard Branson gets head start in billionaire space race | DW News” – below is their description.

British entrepreneur Richard Branson is preparing to fly to the edge of space. He’ll be joining the first fully crewed test flight launched by Virgin Galactic, with six people on board. Branson is one of three billionaires, along with Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, vying to usher in a new era of private commercial space travel.

Branson’s flight will last about 90 minutes, during which the rocket plane will climb to a peak of 89 km above the New Mexico desert. The crew should experience a few minutes of weightlessness before descending.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is scheduled to fly aboard his company Blue Origin’s rocket later this month. Meanwhile, Elon Musk says his company’s first private space flight will take place in September. But Musk’s SpaceX, which has also received funding from the US Government, also has bigger plans.

The other two are seeking to focus on space tourism, taking passengers to low earth orbit for a few minutes of microgravity time.

Regardless of their ambitions, all three men are changing the space industry forever.
