The U.S. government appears to be drastically under-counting the number of coronavirus cases in prisons. A recent report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention documented just under 5,000 cases among inmates nationwide. That’s led some activists to say that the pandemic is highlighting the poor public health in correctional facilities that were already in place before COVID-19 hit.
