South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Rescuers save 13,000 pigs trapped in flash floods in China’s southern Guangxi region” – below is their description.
Torrential rainfall in southern China has had an impact on millions of residents and caused billions of yuan in economic losses. As of June 14, 2022, weeks of heavy rain had triggered flooding and landslides in large areas of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, damaging homes, crops and roads. But on June 12, a dramatic rescue played out at the Black Alpine Pig Ecological Breeding Company in the city of Hechi, where 13,000 pigs were trapped by flash flooding. Some 150 rescuers, including firefighters and local residents, managed to save the pigs and move them to safety. Summer floods are a regular occurrence in China, but scientists have warned for years that climate change will intensify the effects of extreme weather.
