Reform should address imbalance in composition of UN Security Council: Chinese envoy

CGTN published this video item, entitled “Reform should address imbalance in composition of UN Security Council: Chinese envoy” – below is their description.

Zhang Jun, China’s permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) said the reform of the Security Council should adhere to the right direction and solve the current unfair, underrepresented and irrational structure of the Council composition on November 17.

“If the reform does not solve the imbalance in the composition of the Security Council and fails to correct the overrepresentation of developed countries, it will enhance the power of some political groups, making the Council’s decision-making even less democratic and further reducing its efficiency. This is contrary to the original purpose of the reform. Instead of solving the existing problems, it will create more new ones. Such a result is not a progress, but rather a regression,” said Zhang.
