Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Recounting Freedom Riders’ fight against US segregation in 1961” – below is their description.
Between May and November of 1961, hundreds of young people set out – on buses – to challenge segregation in the southern United States.
The “Freedom Riders”, as they were known, were often beaten and arrested at their destinations.
Sixty years later – two of them have been recalling that summer to Al Jazeera.
Al Jazeera’s Kristen Saloomey has more from New York.
