At the start of his criminal trial in New York today, the singer R Kelly was described by the prosecutor as “a predator” who used his fame to manipulate women and children.

Kelly is accused of trafficking women and girls, and sometimes boys, into being sexual slaves against their will.

The singer denies the charges.
