Queensland’s Tongan community is still awaiting news from family in the Pacific Island nation, with communications remaining cut off after Saturday’s tsunami.

Mele Ngauamo was on a video call with her sisters and nieces in Tonga when the line went dead.

“I feel that we are all in this together with the Tongan community. It’s very important that I’m here and keep my mind off all the negative feelings and stuff. I have to concentrate on being positive and sooner or later, we’ll hear from her or my other sister and her children.”
