ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “Queensland records 15 new cases of COVID-19 as lockdown is extended | ABC News” – below is their description.
South-east Queensland’s lockdown has been extended until 4:00pm on Sunday as authorities try to contain the Delta outbreak with 13 new locally acquired cases reported today.
The state recorded 15 new cases of COVID-19 in total, two of which were overseas acquired and detected on a bulk carrier off the Queensland coast.
Ten of today’s community cases are children younger than nine years of age.
The community cases are linked to a growing cluster involving several Brisbane schools.
Acting Premier Steven Miles said the lockdown would be extended for all the 11 local government areas of south-east Queensland.
“That will make it an eight-day lockdown,” Mr Miles said.
Mr Miles said the it meant the EKKA would be cancelled for the second year in a row.
“I know that’s sad and disappointing for many, many Queenslanders who love their annual ritual, their annual trip to the Ekka,” he said.
“The risk is just too great.”
The show public holidays across the region are still slated to go ahead despite the cancellation of the event.
