Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “Queensland opens border to Victoria on December 1” – below is their description.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has revealed Victorians will be able to cross into the Sunshine State from December 1 like their Sydney counterparts. The border breakthrough comes as Victoria recorded another day of no new coronavirus cases with zero active infections. “It’s wonderful to see the whole east coast opening up in time for Christmas,” she told Sky News. “To hear that Victoria’s got those 28 days now of zero and no community transmission, that is absolutely wonderful news. “That now gives people the opportunity to book their accommodation, to book their flights, for airlines to put on additional flights which they’re already doing, and I’m hearing from accommodation operations across Queensland that they are seeing a 250 per cent increase in the number of inquiries for bookings.” Ms Palaszczuk said no one would have to fill in any declaration pass apart from people coming from South Australia, but the state would be assessed at the end of the month. Ms Palaszczuk painted Australia’s hotel quarantine as the greatest source of infection risk and stressed facilities needed to be as “tight as tight can be”. “We will continue to see returning Australians coming back from their northern hemisphere countries, including the US, that will actually come into our hotel quarantine and will be detected with this virus because there’s more virus out there,” she said. “That could be catastrophic to Australia if that hotel quarantine isn’t rock solid.” When asked if two or three cases in one state would cause borders to lock again, Ms Palaszczuk said the “aspiration” was for no community transmission. “That’s the National Cabinet approach, the deputy chief health officer said they want to see no community transmission in Australia,” she said. “That’s exactly what we have stood by.”
