After more than 38 years spent serving communities across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Darryl Hurley is retiring from a gruelling career of firefighting.
The Nerang Station Officer has told 7NEWS of the highs and lows from his time on the front line, from dealing with bushfires and car crashes to working alongside his son at the station.
“It’s been a very rewarding job. Despite the destruction and all the unpleasant things that we do, there’s also a lot of reward.”
