  • Global News published this video item, entitled “Queen Elizabeth II marks official birthday with military parade” – below is their description.

Queen Elizabeth II was accompanied by the Duke of Kent, Prince Edward, on Saturday to view a military parade held in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle to mark her official birthday.

The castle was the setting for the birthday parade, which has replaced the traditional Trooping of the Colour due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Soldiers who have supported communities and the U.K.’s National Health Service during the pandemic were part of the parade. A flypast by the Royal Air Force Red Arrows concluded the event.

The Queen’s official birthday is not actually the date she was born, instead is a day chosen for the U.K. and Commonwealth realms to officially celebrate her birthday. While the Queen’s date of birth is April 21, the official date for celebration varies by each country, but is generally set around the end of May or beginning of June.
