Around a thousand people have been evacuated from their homes in the southern Queensland border town of Inglewood.

The Macintyre river has peaked at more than 11 meters and is one of many being monitored in the state’s central and south east regions.

Commissioner Greg Leach from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services says the SES have performed a number of swift water rescues and reiterates not to approach floodwaters.
