Qatar to approve permanent residency for some expats

Qatar has passed a law to allow some of the foreigners who make up most of its population to get permanent residency.

The draft law will allow residence to the children of Qatari women married to non-Qataris, and to some expatriates.

The status would be the first of its kind in the Gulf region.

Al Jazeera’s Mohamed Vall reports from Doha.
