Qatar-GCC crisis: UAE ‘competed to host Taliban office’

The New York Times reported that the United Arab Emirates tried to get the Taliban to open an office in its capital, rather than in Doha, according to a series of leaked emails from Yousef Al Otaiba, the UAE ambassador to the US.

During the Gulf crisis, one of the complaints against Qatar has been its alleged support for so-called terrorist groups.

Doha’s hosting of an office for the Taliban came after a request from the US, former CIA director David Petraeus has previously said.

Al Jazeera’s Heidi Zhou-Castro reports.
