The final results of Russia’s nationwide vote indicate overwhelming support for changes to the country’s constitution. The Election Commission says nearly 78 percent of the voters have backed the reforms, while 21 percent opposed. The package of constitutional measures proposed by President Vladimir Putin would allow him to extend his rule until 2036. Putin thanked the Russian people for their support and stressed the significance of the amendment.
