South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Public shaming: accused human traffickers paraded through streets of China’s southern Jinxi city” – below is their description.
Four men accused of smuggling people across an international border were publicly shamed in China’s southern province of Guangxi. Flanked by police officers, they were paraded through the streets of Jingxi city on December 28, 2021. Authorities also said the parade was a warning to the public of what could happen if they violated Covid-19 pandemic protection measures. The disciplinary measures, which were reminiscent of those used during China’s Cultural Revolution and banned in 2010, were defended by the local Guangxi government. But state-owned media outlet Beijing News said “the measure seriously violates the spirit of the rule of law and cannot be allowed to happen again.”
