The first cruise ship arrived in Venice, Italy on June 3, 2021, after 17 months of Covid-19 restrictions. The return of these giant vessels was met with protests from both sides of the issue. The “No Big Ships” movement warns that large waves caused by cruise ships erode the historic city’s foundation. While groups supporting the industry argue that people’s livelihoods depend on cruise ship tourism.
