Several hundred supporters of a Bulgarian nationalist party gathered in front of the National Assembly Building in Sofia on Thursday, to protest against the extent of the anti-COVID-19 restrictions imposed by the government.
Tensions rose when several activists tried to break through a police cordon around the building, with a handful being detained.
Members of the Vazrazhdane (Revival) party believe that the lockdown measures are hitting the country’s economy, and demanded the centre-right government of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov step down over what they see as mismanagement of the coronavirus crisis.
