South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Protesters in Sri Lanka call for arrest of former prime minister Rajapaksa” – below is their description.
Around 300 protesters gathered outside the historic Fort railway station in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on May 18, 2022. They called for the arrest of former prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who resigned on May 9, while his younger brother, Gotabaya, continued to rule as president. Sri Lanka has been facing its worst economic crisis since independence in 1948, with the Covid-19 pandemic and rising oil prices battering the tourism-reliant economy. The Energy Minister said it would not be able to supply petrol for the next two days.
