Prize-winning portrait turns up in hunt for missing Archibald entries | The Drum

Whether sold, given away or destroyed in a moment of passionate disappointment, once they’re off the gallery wall, there are all kinds of places artworks can end up.

In preparations for the 100th anniversary of the Archibald Prize next year, the Art Gallery of NSW is working to fill the gap in its digital archive, by finding and photographing more than 1500 portraits currently unaccounted for.

It’s a slow process, but as Ruby Cornish reports, there’s just been a big find.
