Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy (D) discussed the death of 1st Lt. Richard Collins III and how his legacy lives on during an interview with The Washington Post on Jan. 11. Collins was stabbed to death in 2017 while visiting the University of Maryland.
Braveboy’s office and the Collins family fought for a bill, the 2nd Lieutenant Richard Collins III’s Law, to be introduced in the General Assembly that expanded the definition of a hate crime to include a motivation “in whole or in substantial part” based on someone’s identity.
