President Trump defends sacking of FBI chief James Comey

US President Donald Trump has defended his decision to sack FBI director James Comey, saying Democrats and Republicans will thank him for it.

The White House said on Wednesday that Comey was fired over his handling of an inquiry into leaked e-mails from Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

But Comey had also been leading an investigation into possible Russian collusion in last year’s US presidential election.
