The President of the United States has arrived in the UK ahead of a meeting with world leaders at the G7 summit this weekend.

Joe Biden’s first overseas trip as president begins with a meeting with Boris Johnson — and and a message that the trade row between the EU and the UK must not be allowed to endanger peace in Northern Ireland.

At the heart of that row is the Brexit agreement’s Northern Ireland Protocol which allows for border checks on goods going into the province from the rest of the UK.

UK ministers want those checks to end, arguing that they are leading to food shortages.

The European Commission has warned that the EU is ready to take resolute action if the UK fails to meet its obligations under the Northen Ireland protocol.

Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by North America editor Jon Sopel and political editor Laura Kuenssberg.

Ireland is an island in the North Atlantic. It is separated from Great Britain to its east by the North Channel, the Irish Sea, and St George’s Channel.

Geopolitically, Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland (officially named Ireland), which covers five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. As of 2016, 4.8 million people live in the Republic of Ireland, and 1.8 million live in Northern Ireland.

The Irish climate is influenced by the Atlantic Ocean and thus very moderate, and winters are milder than expected for such a northerly area, although summers are cooler than those in continental Europe. Rainfall and cloud cover are abundant.

A strong Irish culture exists, as expressed through Gaelic games, Irish music and the Irish language. The island’s culture shares many features with that of Great Britain, including the English language, and sports such as association football, rugby, horse racing, and golf.

    1. Tell old Joe to keep his nose out northern ireland affairs. He playing to the Irish republicans in the US and South of Ireland. He so close to sein fein and the Irish government you could not separate them with a strand of hair. He would be better sorting out the disaster he has caused in the U S border and the jobs front. But what’s you expect from journalists when trump was in power they were all over him, but journalist seem to have vanished were Biden is concerned. We probably need better journalist who are not afraid to pursue items thats not on the media agenda.
