Atlanta police have rescued the driver of a stolen police car seconds before a train crashed into it as it lay overturned on train tracks. The patrol vehicle was stolen by a man as police officers were carrying out traffic stops in the early hours of January 28. The Atlanta Police Department’s Air Unit followed the stolen vehicle from a helicopter before the suspect lost control of the police car, which then overturned. Officers, assisted by Georgia State Patrol, arrived at the scene in time to rescue the suspect from the vehicle moments before a train crashed into it. The incident was captured on Body Worn Video cameras and from a helicopter. Atlanta Police said the suspect was charged with theft by taking, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, obstruction, and damage to city property. He was ultimately transported to Fulton County Jail.
