FRANCE 24 English published this video item, entitled “Poland’s mining heartland contemplates a coal-free future” – below is their description.
An energy policy U-turn from Poland has seen the country announce its intention to close all its thermal coal mines by 2049. It’s not the most ambitious scheme, but it does mark a wider shift of attitudes in Poland, spurred on by an EU emissions trading scheme that’s making the reliance on coal more and more expensive. At the same time, alternatives continue to get cheaper. FRANCE 24’s Gulliver Cragg reports from the south-western region of Silesia.
