Global News published this video item, entitled “Poland protests: Thousands gather for 7th day of abortion demonstrations in Warsaw” – below is their description.
Thousands took to the streets across Poland on Oct. 28 for the seventh day of protests against a court ruling that further limits the country’s highly restrictive abortion laws. Women’s strike organizers called for a nationwide walk-out for women at work. Some employers, including schools, announced a day off to allow people to join the protests. Demonstrators, many of them wearing having face masks and clothes decorated with red lightning bolts, a symbol of the protests, marched through central Warsaw, some carrying posters that read “Girls just wanna have fundamental rights” and “I am not a subject of your political game.” Poland has been rocked by huge demonstrations, most of them peaceful, since its top court ruled on Oct. 22 that abortion due to fetal abnormalities was not permissible under the constitution. The decision means only abortions due to incest, rape or a risk to the mother’s health remain legal, setting predominantly Catholic Poland far apart from the European mainstream.
