Poland-Belarus border: Migrants fight for survival in woods in cold weather

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Poland-Belarus border: Migrants fight for survival in woods in cold weather” – below is their description.

In November last year, Al Jazeera reported on the case of one young Kurdish man who had survived freezing temperatures in the forests between Poland and Belarus.

He was one of the thousands who arrived on the European Union’s borders, hoping to find a better life.

But they were met with a tough response from Polish authorities.

Up to 1,800 asylum seekers detained in eight camps have launched hunger strikes and sometimes violent protests over the conditions.

The Polish government says this is why they are locked up in the first place.

Aid agencies call it a deliberate policy of deterrence.

Al Jazeera’s Jonah Hull reports from Krynki on Poland’s border with Belarus.
