Alexander Lukashenko has vowed that Belarusian ‘will defend ourselves’ as EU foreign ministers meet today to slap a fresh round of sanctions on his regime.

Lukashenko pledged a ‘strong response’ to any new penalties, which come in response to a migrant crisis on Poland’s border that he is accused of manufacturing.

The strongman leader, speaking at a meeting of high-ranking officials today, again denied being responsible for the crisis, while vowing: ‘We will defend ourselves. That’s it, we have nowhere to retreat.’
