Rufina Peter has been declared as the Governor for Central Province making her the first woman to win a seat in Papua New Guinea’s election, and only the 8th female MP since independence in 1975. After an election marred by violence, incumbent Prime Minister James Marape looks likely to retain his position as leader when parliament is expected to sit next week.
