Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “PM remains ‘incredibly proud’ of ADF” – below is their description.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison is standing behind the Australian Defence Force – insisting the nation remains “incredibly proud” of its military service people following the Brereton report. Speaking on radio this morning, Mr Morrison said “what we’re talking about here is a small number in a very big Defence Force and everyone who pulls on a uniform has earnt and deserved our respect”. “I wouldn’t want any Defence Force member, serving men or women, or veterans to feel that anyone is looking at them differently, I’m certainly not … we’re incredibly proud of them,” he said. The prime minister also clarified the government was not aware of the identities of soldiers who allegedly committed war crimes in Afghanistan. A petition has been signed by 25,000 people in just 72 hours for SAS exhibits to remain at the War Memorial, as well as for meritorious citations to remain – following a move to strip the award from 3000 elite service personnel. Following the damning findings of the Brereton report, former ADF chief Chris Barrie called for SAS exhibitions to be temporarily stood down.
