South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Philippines starts long-delayed Covid-19 vaccination programme using free Chinese Sinovac jabs” – below is their description.
The Philippines rolled out its long-stalled coronavirus vaccination programme on March 1, 2021, the day after Manila took delivery of its first batch of free jabs from China. Health care workers, police and military personnel were the first to receive the Sinovac shots, prompting thanks from Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. Manila’s Food and Drug Administration approved the vaccine for emergency use on people aged 18-59, but 75-year-old Duterte has ruled out taking it himself because of his age. Authorities also advised against use of the Chinese vaccine for health care workers, citing its low efficacy rate. The Chinese vaccine has not been popular among Filipino hospital staff, with one survey indicating that 94 per cent would prefer jabs from Pfizer or AstraZeneca.
