Philippines: Duterte welcomes visiting Chinese navy ships in Davao

Philippines: Duterte welcomes visiting Chinese navy ships in Davao.

President Rodrigo Duterte has personally welcomed a Chinese Navy flotilla into his home town Davao.

It’s the first time China’s Navy has visited the island nation in eight years, and an indication that joint naval exercises might take place in the future.

Despite territorial disputes between the two countries in the South China Sea, Duterte says his welcome is intended to show goodwill among friends.

Al Jazeera’s Jamela Alindogan reports from Davao in the Philippines.
