Philippines-China tensions simmer over underwater plateau

The Philippine government is increasing its interest in a resource-rich underwater plateau.
The United Nations says it is part of the Philippines’ territory.
However, a Chinese ship was spotted in the area. Beijing says it was conducting scientific research, but the Philippines said it had not given its consent.
