Philippine boxer Nesthy Petecio scooped a silver medal in the Olympic final of the boxing women’s featherweight (54-57kg) division in Tokyo on August 3, 2021. Emotions ran high as the 29-year-old’s family in the Philippines watched the gold medal bout against Japan’s Sena Irie. The country’s first female boxer to earn an Olympic medal said she dedicated her triumph to the LGBT community, which she said she is “proud to be part of”.
