Waves from a volcanic eruption in Tonga caused an oil spill at La Pampilla refinery, run by the Spanish oil giant Repsol, off the coast near Peru’s capital Lima. Authorities on Wednesday described the spill as “the worst ecological disaster” in recent times. Footage shows the sand and rocks on beaches in Lima covered with oil.
