7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “Pedestrians killed in Claremont Meadows, Castlereagh & Murrumbateman | 7NEWS” – below is their description.
In a shocking start to the long weekend in New South Wales, three pedestrians have died in separate crashes.
The three pedestrians were killed within 45 minutes of each other.
The horror night started in Claremont Meadows in Sydney’s west when 80-year-old Tomislav Kolega was hit by a hatchback being driven by a 24-year-old man. Witnesses and paramedics performed CPR, but the grandfather of 9 couldn’t be saved.
His family has told 7NEWS that he, and other neighbours, had been asking for the pedestrian crossing signals to be re-timed and the speed limit on Gipps Street to be reduced.
Less than an hour later, at Castlereagh, a 32-year-old man was hit by a ute and also died.
Those fatalities, and the third of an elderly woman hit at Murrumbateman, have taken New South Wales’ road toll this year to 222.
All 3 drivers were taken for mandatory drug and alcohol tests, but so far no charges have been laid.
Police are warning with the NRL grand final tomorrow and the school holidays continuing, that they will be increasing patrols, reminding everyone that double demerits are in force.
