Global News published this video item, entitled “Paris streets filled by thousands protesting France’s proposed pension reforms: “Continue the fight”” – below is their description.
Two days after more than one million people took to the streets of various French cities in opposition of the government’s proposed pension reforms, thousands were led by the far-left La France Insoumise party through Paris on Saturday.
President Emmanuel Macron wants to raise the retirement age by two years to keep the pension system out of the red, and offered a guaranteed minimum pension of €1,200 – or US$1,300 – per month after working a complete full-time career. However, those protesting Saturday said they would continue to march against the reforms.
“We must continue this fight, because if not, we will be the ones to suffer, and so will our children. We have no right to let this happen,” government worker Sadia Lakel said.
Trade unions have called for a new day of nationwide protests on Jan. 31, however, the government has shown no sign of backing down.
