The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “Paris: Police use water cannons, batons and tear gas on protestors” – below is their description.
Riot police responded to hostility from protesters in central Paris on Saturday, January 30, by targeting them with water cannons, batons, and tear gas.
Hundreds had gathered in Place de la République for renewed demonstrations against France’s proposed “global security” bill — in particular, an article of the bill which criminalize the “malicious” dissemination of images of police, and other articles that critics say allow for the excessive surveillance of people in public.
The provision caused such an uproar that the government decided to rewrite it.
Critics fear the law could impinge on press freedom and make it more difficult to expose police brutality.
