ITV News published this video item, entitled “Paralysed rugby player lockdown challenge to cover 2 million metres | ITV News” – below is their description.
Former England Under 21 Rugby player Matt Hampson who was paralysed from the neck down in a training accident is helping to “walk” two million metres during lockdown. Matt Hampson was injured in 2005 and a charity in his name now runs a centre to help other injured sports men and women.
They provide rehabilitation, physio and specialised exercise facilities to them to allow them to adapt to their new lives with their disabilities. The exercise facilities had to close during Lockdown 2 (rehab and physio could continue) and so they embarked on a challenge to “walk”, pedal, handcycle a million metres during the four week lockdown.
They achieved that with a week to go and so have doubled the challenge and have just two days to do another half a million metres.
