Salman Taseer, a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member and governor of the Punjab region of Pakistan, has been assassinated in Islamabad.
Mr Taseer was shot near a market by a member of his own security detail, before being taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Pakistan is currently experiencing political instability following the breakup of its governing coalition.
It is unclear what motivated the killing of Salman Taseer.
