The chairman of the main opposition party in Pakistan, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, or the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), has indicated that his party will not move against the Prime Minister, Yuzuf Raza Gilani, despite the coalition coming apart this weekend, in order to preserve stability in the country.
Pakistan’s political system was shaken over the weekend when the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) party left the ruling coalition, ending the majority, because of concerns about fuel prices in the country.
The move prompted domestic and international fear over the stability of Government in Pakistan, however, according to a Reuters report, the main opposition party, PML-N said removing the PM would “damage the whole country”.
