An ethnic minority leader in Pakistan who has led protests against the powerful military has been arrested.
Manzoor Pashteen heads the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (Pashtun Protection Movement or PTM) which accuses armed forces of rights abuses in the tribal areas along the border with Afghanistan.
The army has cracked down on armed groups there including the Pakistani Taliban.
Pashteen faces charges including sedition and inciting violence, according to local police.

The police are a constituted body of persons empowered by a state, with the aim to enforce the law, to ensure the safety, health and possessions of citizens, and to prevent crime and civil disorder. Their lawful powers include arrest and the use of force legitimized by the state via the monopoly on violence.
The Taliban or Taleban, who refer to themselves as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, is a Deobandi Islamist movement and military organization in Afghanistan, currently waging war within the country. Since 2016, the Taliban’s leader has been Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada.
