Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore is expected to make an announcement Friday and provide an update on COVID-19, as the province’s proof-of-vaccination program is in effect.

On Wednesday, the province implemented its COVID-19 vaccine certificate program for many indoor public settings, including restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and concert venues.

Premier Doug Ford called it a “temporary and exceptional” measure needed to avoid another lockdown.

Ontario reported 727 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, as the seven-day average continued to decline. The provincial case total now stands at 582,635.

The death toll in the province rose to 9,688, as 11 more virus-related deaths were recorded including three of those from more than a month ago due to data cleanup.
