Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces extension of stay-at-home order | LIVE

Global News published this video item, entitled “Ontario Premier Doug Ford announces extension of stay-at-home order | LIVE” – below is their description.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced Thursday that the provincial stay-at-home order would be extended until at least June 2 in an effort to “save the summer.” The order was originally set to expire May 20, but will be extended for two weeks.

On Wednesday, Ford defended closing outdoor public amenities, saying the goal behind ordering such amenities like golf courses and tennis courts to close is limiting mobility in a bid to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Also on Wednesday, Health Minister Christine Elliott advised that receiving a COVID-19 vaccine would not be made compulsory for children, as the government set a target date of June for vaccinations for those aged 12 to 17.

Starting Thursday, Ontarians aged 40 and older can book COVID-19 vaccine appointments across the province.

The Ontario government says 254,500 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine will be delivered to Ontario the week of May 17.

Ontario reported 2,320 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The provincial total now stands at 499,412.
